Hallowe’en at the Cage on Sunday 30th October

The Shenley Witches (Nicky Beaton & Tracy Brice) with their good friend the Cat (Amanda Leboff) took residence in the spooky Hallowe’en Cage to welcome villagers, fellow witches, zombies, skeletons, cats, vampires, ghosts and ghouls.    This year we had a special guest, Herman the monster (operated by Jade Susman) who entertained those about to go into the Cage.   Inside Skeleton Witch served the most delicious green and black eyeballs in green slime, Ugly Witch offered pink strawberry worms and Cat offered children sweeties.   Children were braver this year and not so many had to be egged on to sample the eyeballs.  The worms were particularly delicious.   It was rather chilly on Sunday so special thanks to Alex Black (Orchard Tea Rooms) for providing the tasty blood soup (tomato soup, not ghoul-ash!) which was most welcome.   Helen Hussain and Amanda’s parents Roberta and Anthony Shaw and sister-in-law Deborah Shaw kindly handed out toffee apples with Superman Monty (Amanda’s gorgeous little poodle puppy) helping.

Our Dracula photographer (Guy Beaton) and his able assistant Ross Brice organised the spooky fancy dress competition, taking photos of all entrants.   A magnificent 71 entrants – what a great turnout!  Costumes and makeup were brilliant this year.  It was very hard to choose the winners but after a lot of deliberating first prize has been awarded to Claw Hand-Ashaan Chambers and the Runners up are Skeleton Witch-Sienna Patel, Scary Clown-Harry Apfel, Bow-tie Clown-Harley Clayton and Frankenstein-Sam Shaw (please see the photos).   Well done everyone.

Pumpkins Competition – Best Pumpkin prize has been awarded to Florence and Maisie Gilbert.  Well done girls.   We also have to commend the spooky castle pumpkin.

Special thanks to Amanda Leboff our lovely Parish Clerk for organising the event brilliantly as always.  She works so hard.  There really is a lot to do behind the scenes and of course on the day – what a star.

Huge thanks also to everyone who helped us set up and clear up:  Helen Hussain, Gavin O’Sullivan & Pam Young, Ross & Tracy Brice, Guy Beaton, Jade Susman, Jeremy Leboff, Anthony Spencer and Roberta, Anthony & Deborah Shaw.   I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone.
