On Sunday 12th November at 10.45 a large number of Villagers gathered at the War Memorial near the Cage Pond to take part in the annual remembrance ceremony to honour all those brave men and women who gave their lives for us in World War 1 and 2 and in other conflicts round the world since then.

Hertsmere Borough Councillors Peter Rutledge and his partner Jane West were in attendance representing the Mayor of Hertsmere.

They walked down London Road from St Martin’s Church with Rev. Daniel McCarthy and many other villagers.  Daniel lead the Ceremony with Rabbi Alan Garber and representatives from the Methodist Church.

There was also representation by the Emergency Services and many other local organisations including our local schools and scouting groups.

After the ceremony many went back to the Village Hall to enjoy refreshments provided by the Parish Council and served by the WI.  It was so interesting to be able to look at the display of Shenley Archive material, photos and books organised by Liz Trott.

Many thanks to all those who took part, to the WI, to Liz Trott, Amanda Leboff and all other helpers.
